DRUNKEN MOTORIST. (By Telegraph—Press Association). HOKITIKA, Thursday. As the result of a collision between two motor-cars on the Arahura Road at 5 p.m., yesterday, William Harold Shaw, a commercial traveller, appeared in the Alagistrate’s Court, charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a car. Police evidence showed that the collision occurred on a 24ft. road, in spite of the efforts of the other driver, the defendant’s car swinging across almost at right angles into the other car, which was carrying a team of hockey girls. Both cars were badly smashed, but none of the occupants was injured. Defendant was fined £lO and costs and suppression of his name was refused. BULLOCK RUNS AMOK IN TOWN. CIIRI ST CUURC H, Th ur sday. A mad bullock, with stockman and others in wild pursuit, shouting and cracking whips, was a sight which greeted Lyttelton residents this morning. The animal, after being turned into the paddock adjoining the abattoir, jumped over the post-and-rail fence. Two horsemen immediately sol off in hot pursuit. Sighting a dairyman’s horse and cart in Brilian ’Terrace, the bullock charged, and the milk vendor sought refuge up a flight of steps. The horse jumped aside and the bullock thus did not strike Hie cart squarely. Realising that the animal was in a very dangerous mood the pursuers endeavoured lo keep it constantly on the run. The bullock rushed down Voelas Road, where it met a shipwright, who was carrying timber and wheeling a bicycle. The bullock impaled the cycle on ils horns and wrecked the machine. Among the divorce petitions which came before Air Justice Adams in the Supreme Court, yesterday was one by a man who had been convicted of big’amy. He wanted to divorce his wife on the grounds that she had deserted him. The petitioner was not present to support bis claim. His wife secured a divorce on a crosspetition. The parties were Frederick Wiliam Seaton, engineer, of Papakura, and Olive Elizabeth Seaton (Air E. S. McCarthy).
