TROTTING SECRETARY.
MR A. J. SMITH RESIGNS. NINETEEN YEARS’ SERVICE. Mr Arthur .T. Smith, secretary to the Waikato Trotting Club for the past 10 years, announced his intention of resigning as frqin July 31 next, at a meeting of the committee last evening. The resignation was accepted with regret. Mr Smith said he was giving up the position wholly on account, of private business reasons. There had been several differences of opinion between other members and himself but these had nothing whatever to do with his resignation. He could not carry on his private business and give fufl attention to trotting matters at the same time. "Mr Smith has been heart, and soul in the xvork and I shall be sorry to see him go,” said Mr Fraser-Smith, in moving that, the resignation be accepted with regret. Mr A. Livingstone said Mr Smith had been connected with the early stages of trotting in the Waikato and he had acquitted himself well in the service of the club. There had been troubles in the past but reconciliations had beei) effected at all times. He for one, w’ould regret his departure. The chairman (Mr J. Teddy) and other members then spoke eulogistic,ally of Mr Smith’s work. Mr Smith returned thanks and intimated that he still hoped to be of use to the club.
It w'as later decided to call for applications for the position of secretary.
