TAX ON COMPANIES.
AND RATES ON STOCK. CAUSE AND EFFECT. "The company tax is one of the greatest burdens put on farmers," said a delegate at the provincial conference of the Farmers' Union this morning. The remit under discussion was: "That the conference makes strong representations to the Auctioneers' Association of Hamilton, to reduce commission rates on stock to tbose ruling before last increase." The speaker said the tax was 8s 9d in the £. and had been as great as 12s 6d in the £. This prevented any. accumulation of profits. Several delegates who -were directors on co-operative auctioneering companies pointed out that the companies could not reduce the commission rates, and found it hard to carry on sometimes. After ci long discussion the remit was withdrawn.
