Charles King, aged 39, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment in the Police Court to-day on a charge | of having robbed Hugo Brandsledt of j a gold watcli and chain valued at £2O. | He had been only four days out of! gaol after serving a sentence of j seven years. Chief Detective Hammond said King j had been in gaol nearly all his life, ! and he was going back there for 18 | months, as he was a prisoner out on j probation. He had served long sen- j tences in England and Australia for \ )j crimes including house-breaking, and : | since being sentenced in New Zea- | land had escaped from custody. |
