AN IMPRESSIVE SERVICE
AT ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH. An impressive service was held yesterday morning in St. Andrew’s Church, presided over by the Rev. 11. G. Gilbert. The service' was attended by some 25 Girl Guides, who arrived at the Church with the colours of their troop flying. As I hey marched up the aisle the colour-hearers handed their flags over to Mr Gilbert, who took charge of them until Ihe service had finished, when they were handed hack to the keeping of Ihe girls. A most telling sermon was preached by Mr Gilbert, who, taking for his text, “Freely ye have received, freely give,” impressed upon the congregation the practical idea of service. There was a crowded congregation in the evening, when Rev. H. G. Gilbert conducted an Anzac Memorial service. The Hamilton Pipe Baud attended. and the Church was filled to overflowing, - many being unable to obtain admission. The service was bright and inspiring throughout, the singing being led by a large choir, under the conduclorship of Mr E. 11. Apthorp. The preacher took for his text, I. Chronicles xxvi.. 27: “Out, of the spoils won in battles did they dedicate to maintain Ihe House of the Lord.” In a forceful address lie pointed out that the spoils of war did not necessarily mean material tilings, and urged that those virtues which had been so pronounced amongst the soldiers and peoples during the welter of war should now he dedicated to the furtherance of peace and international amity. • ORDINATION OF ELDERS. An impressive service, conducted by Rev. Lawrence Rogers, was held in First Church, Prank-ton, yesterday morning, when Messrs \V. E. Burrow, \V. F. Choate, .1. Ewart, and it. A. Walker were ordained as elders and inducted as members of the Church Session* > .
