MAGISTRATE AND PRISONER. THREAT TO MURDER. “TAKE THE MAN AWAY.” (By Telegraph.—Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Monday. Maurice Tangney, aged 32, pleaded not guilty to-day to assaulting Norman Augustine Edgar. Complainant said Tangney threatened to murder Dim. break Ids nose, and have his blood, because he alleged that Edgar owed him three weeks’ board. On Sunday morning Tangney struck Edgar in bed, afterwards knocking him down and kicking him. Tangney: You pinched my milk out of the billy ever since you stayed at the house, didn't you? Edgar: No. You've thrown stones on my roof at night?—No. Tangney then suggested that Edgar had not had a bath since going to liis house to Jive, and used had language. After a wordy conflict with (tie Bench, the magistrate, Mr McKean, remarked: "That's enough. I quite understand anyone using had language at you after talking with you for two minutes, and each of your straight lefis will cost you £2. Take (lie man away.” But Tangney remained in the dock arguing, till Mr McKean increased the total fine lo £5. Then he left mattering objections.
