MOTOR ACCIDENTS.
ON WAY TO A DANCE. GIRL KILLED FOUR INJURED. WANGANUI, Sunday. A fatal motoring accident occurred last evening, when a party of young men and women were driving on thenway to a cabaret. As a result one of the occupants of the car, Miss Mary Ball, died soon after she was admitted to the hospital.. The other members of the party, numbering live, miraculously escaped serious injury, although three of them are in hospital. The names of the injured arc:—Edward Wylie, abrasions and severed tendons of the forearm; Nelson Meuli, abrasions and gashes to Ihe face; Miss Lee Swan, injuries lo tlie ankle; Miss R. Jackson, deep cut on the leg; Leo Udy was not injured. The mishap occurred as the car was turning a corner while descending Virginia Road, Christie’s Hill. The vehicle, which was heing driven by Mr Wylie, apparently skidded and then plunged through a fence, flattening the latter to the ground. After rolling over several times the car came to rest upside down against a pine tree, the- ,of it being smashed. Miss Ball, who was in the front scat, was caught by a rib of the hood, which inflicted terrible internal injuries. MOTOR CAR ON RAILWAY. ACCIDENT AT NGARUAWAHIA. N G A R UA W AIIIA. Saturday. An accident occurred at the railway crossing opposite the Waipa Jlo-tel at midnight. A car owned and driven by Mr Leon Healey, of Auckland, was crossing the line, but ran into the cattle stop. Mr Healey ran along the line to try and stop an approaching goods [.rain, but i| could not lie stopped before Ihe cowcatcher had smashed the front wheel if ho car. The car was removed and the lino cleared.
