ANAEMIA TESTS.
RESULTS FROM LIVER DIET. Important results of tests made by the British Medical Research Council with a new treatment for pernicious anaemia are to be made pdblic in the near future. There results will, it is believed, confirm the hopes of medical men that an effective cure, for this grave disease has been found. An official of the Medical Research Council said to a reporter: “Practical tests of the new treatment have been carried out in British hospitals for some time, and it is safe to say that the immediate results have beert very encouraging. It remaius to be seen, of course, whether the cure is permanent, “The method, which consists of feeding the patients with liver, W'as discovered by Dr Minot and Dr. Murphy, of the Harvard Medical School, and adapted by them and Dr Cohn. One of our aims has been to discover a method of administering the cure in palatable_form, as some people would almost prefer to have the disease rather than cat half a pound of liver a day. “The liver can now be given in the form of an extract, and it is very important that we should have available all the data concerning the discovery so that commercial firms may have readily accessible all the information necessary to produce the extract in the best, possible form for use.” While the cure is primarily intended for pernicious anaemia, experiments are also being marie to determine its effect on other commoner forms of anaemia.
