LIEUT-COLONEL LASCELLES. TO VISIT HIS BIRTHPLACE DISTINGUISHED MILITARY CAREEB. (United Press Association.) (Received April 21, 10.45 ajn.)' SYDNEY, April 2'L Lieutenant-Colonel E.ff.W. Lascelles, commandant of the Army School of Education at Belgaum (India), has arrived en route to New Zealand, where he was born. He was aide-de-camp to Lord Kitchener in 1911 when the latter was Commander-in-Chief of the Coronation troops. Mrs Lascelles accompanies her husband. Lieut-Colonel Lascelles, C.8.E., was born at Clive (Hawke's Bay) in 1880, being the son of the late Mr Roh.de Lascelles. He was educated at Puketapu and Taradale schools and married Miss Margaret Hawdon Davidson, of Culverden. He was farming in New Zealand when the South African war broke out and he volunteered for service in 1899. He was promoted to Sergeant in the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, Rhodesian Field Force, 1900, and later was granted a commission in the 3rd Dragoon Guards, being appointed Captain in 1904 and was adjutant 1904-7. His further progress was rapid. He served in the Great War, being on the General Staff, 2nd Australian Division (Anzac), and Bth Army Corps (Cape Holies) in 1915. After the war he received an appointment in India in 1919, where he has since been located.
