MATAMATA.

School Holidays. There is nothinc further to report in connection with the school holidays. Which, unless some further action is taken, will commence on May 4. The Junior High School Committee requested the Board of Education to postpone the holidays until June, but objection was raised by the Primary Gommittee and the request was refused. It was understood that committees had a certain amount of discretion in this matter, but apparently any decision to alter the date of holidayfe must be unanimous. The teaching staff is not, as a Whole, in favour of prolonging the term unduly, and the headmaster expressed the opinion that 17 weeks' tuition would he a strain on the children. Pnobably the object of the board's permission 'to committees to alter the d<ale of the holidays was merely to adjust matters where a clay or two was concerned and not for so long a time as a month.

From the point of view of the coun- . try dwellers it would be more convenient for tihem if 'the holidays were later, as the cows would then be dry and the family could go away toi gether. As it is now, the, children I just stay about on the farm, and do I not get. benefit 'of a change away from home.

White entertained the, class with a suite of. gramophone records of the music from "Peer Gynl," with oral explain-J tion of each phase, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. i Football Dance.
