THE WOMEN'S DIVISION.

THE AIMS OF THE UNION. (By Our Correspondent.) • One is sometimes asked what are the aims of this widespread Union of country women, and for what purpose was it inaugurated, so, as this is the end of our financial year I am going to answer those enquiries, hoping to interest others and to gain more members.

We wish to strengthen the Farers' Union, as it is only by the cooperation of both country men and women that this can be permanently and successfully achieved. To better the conditions of women and children living on the land. To improve the schooling for country children.

To improve the system of board for counfry children attending High School.

To improve medical and nursing facilities for country women. To secure more frequent, medical inspection of country schools.

To secure more domeste help on farms.

To obtain visiting help or housekeepers. To provide rest rooms in country towns.

To improve conditions of migration

To strive for the Bible in schools

To secure school' books for children at cost price. To inaugurate and preserve a Farmers' Union sports day. To develop a community spirit and encourage the ideals of good citizenship. To promote the welfare of tJie home, country, and the Empire. To brighten the lives of all junior

migrants to the Dominion working on land.

To endeavour to secure a home science department at the university and. agricultural colleges to enable country women to receive instruction in dressmaking, millinery, bottling and preserving fruits, and domestic arts, together with lectures and demonstrations on public health, child welfare,, prevention of disease, etc. We And that the greatest demand has been for temporary housekeepers, and there are now sixteen on our register, and they are kept occupied. The need for a reliable woman to take charge and run the household while the mother is ill or in a similar emergency is indeed a great one. Our division also employs one nurse /or country cases, and it has established ttie Dominion Book Club, which has been previously described in this column.
