ROTOTUNA.

- Valedictory Social. Th" Rototuna Church was well filled on Friday last, the occasion being a farewell to several of our residents who are leaving Bototuna. The Rev. B. Morgan officiated as chairman, and the accompaniments were sympathetically and ably played by Mrs Gilbert, Miss Clements and Mr Stan Morpran. The room was tastefully arranged as a drawing room, a feature of the decorations being the beautiful dahlias from the garden of Mr A. E. Cave, of Hamilton Fast. In an interval the Rev. R. Morgan voiced the feelings of everyone when he regretted the departure from Bototuna of Mr and .Mrs A. Stewart and Norman. They had been in the district for sixteen years and had made numerous friends. He a°ked Mr and Mrs Stewart to accept a barometer as a token of esteem from their Rototuna friends, and Norman a silver "Eversharp" pencil. Mr F. W. Thomas, a personal friend of the family, endorsed the previous speaker's remarks and spoke of Mr Stewart's qualities as a settler. The Rev. H. G. Gilbert deeply regretted the departure of the guests, remarking that Rototuna's losa was Matamata's gain, and he knew that the Presbyterian minister at Matamata is eagerly anticipating their coming. k

Mr Stewart and Norman suitably and feelingly acknowledged the gifts. Later in the evening Mr A. 11. Clement, Sunday School superintendent, spoke words of farewell to Miss Olive Phillimore and Miss Winnie Borman, two of our Bible Class members, who have severed their connection prior to leaving the district. He asked Miss Phillimore, on the eve of her marriage, to accept from the Sunday School, Bible Class and her Bototuna friends a teaset and tny, with every good wish for future happiness and prosperity. Mr Trebes acknowledged the gifts. Miss Borman was the recipient of a tortoiseshell toilet outfit from her many friends in the Sunday School, Bible Class, Tennis, and Shakespearean Clubs. The guests were accorded musical honours. The three ladies were also the tecipients of beautiful bouquets, tastefully arranged by Miss Martin. A dainty supper was handed round and the evening concluded with the pronouncing of the Benediction.
