BOWLING.
SOUTH AUCKLAND CENTRE. CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. At the Frankton green this afternoon play was begun to decide the champion singles among the clubs affiliated to the South Auckland Centre. For this purpose the Centre is divided into four groups, the Waikato group being engaged in to-day’s contest. Of the eleven clubs comprised within this group Raglan, Glen Massey, and Hamilton were not represented, the latter on account of N. Bell, jun., the Hamilton Club’s singles champion, being unable to return from the Rotorua tournament in time.
Play began at 1 p.m., the results of the first round being as under:— First Round.—Mcivor (Cambridge), 19, v. Horton (Hamilton East), 12; McFarlane (Ngaruawahia), 21, v. Lucas (Frankton), 18; Lovcridge (Whitiora), 21, v. Lennard (Huntly), 17; Carter (Claudelands), 22, v. Skelton (Frankton Railways), 16.
