SERIOUS CHARGES.

JURY FAILS TO AGREE. AUCKLAND, Saturday. After a retirement of four hours, the jury considering the case of Alexander Henry Martin, aged 26, a jaw clerk, charged in tbe Supreme Court with indecent assault, returned to state there was no possibility of reaching an agreement. A new trial will probably take place next week. Accused’s bail .was renewed. An elderly man, John Edwin Robinson, was found guilty of attempted carnal knowledge. Prisoner was remanded until this morning for sentence. NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. The hearing of a case against Harry Leopold Spratt, solicitor, of llawera, who was indicted on a charge of aiding and abetting a young .woman in the commission of a crime, namely, that of unlawfully permitting an instrument to be used on herself, was concluded this morning. The magistrate dismissed the information on the grounds that the prosecution had not adduced sufficient evidence to warrant accused being committed for trial.
