NEW ZEALAND GIRL.

VISIT TO EGYPT. IN SHAKESPEAREAN REPERTOIRE. Marie Ney writes from England on her Cairo notepaper, where she had been playing leading parts in Shakespeare with tlie company that goes out under Government contract. Marie also sent some extracts from her fine notices, but the personal extracts in the letters appear to be still more interesting. So let Marie chatter: — _ “We had King Fuad in for our last night to Cairo—he knows no English, but followed the play—“ The Mer-chant”—-with a French translation. It was very interesting meeting Lord Lloyd, who came to every play, and spent most of his time in the wings where he confessed to enjoying the play more. “I enjoyed the week in Alexandria. This was quite new to me—Cairo I had visited some four years ago. Alexandria is modern —very modern—l kept thinking I must be somewhere in France—it has little African about it. “We picnicked one day in the desert on the way out to look at Rosetta —a tumble-dowm village with quaint Arabian Nights-like houses. The ornate fretted window's, much broken and in disrepair, but very Eastern and picturesque withal. “I met a Princess Hassan at the Continental-Savoy Hotel in Cairo, who used to be Ola Humphries. I have heard of her in Australia, and know she played there years ago. She confessed she would like to act again and play ‘a downright mother part with plenty of heart in it.’

“Glad to he home again, though the experience of Shakespeare in Egypt w r as interesting.”
