£SOOO MEANS DEATH.
HEAD CHOPPED OFF. REDS EXECUTE WHOLE FAMILIES. (From a Correspondent). HONGKONG, December 18. Stories continue to reach here of the ghastly conditions prevailing in the Haifung and Lukfung districts in Kwantung Province, about 80 miles west of Swatow. In these districts a regime modelled on that of the Soviet has been set up. As a result thousands of people are fleeing to Hongkong. The Soviet, which is allied with the Third (Moscow) Internationale, Is under the leadership of Ping Pai, who formerly studied in Japan. He has been given as free a hand as that of the late Sun Yat-sen in carrying out the Red experiment. Wholesale confiscation of property has been enforced, and anyone possessing as much as £SOOO is condemned to death, with his family. Scholars and older people, regarded as forming the intelligentsia, have been publicly executed without trial after terrible mutilations. Spectators of these executions who display no sign either of sympathy or horror are themselves being executed as counter-revolutionaries.
