DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.

RAILWAY STATION DESTROYED. ALSO A GROCER'S SHOP. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) TAIHAPE, Thursday. At Mataroa, eight miles north of Taihapc. at 3 o'clock this morning, the railway station and Lamb's grocer's shop were burnt to the ground. It is suspected the fire started In Lamb's bakehouse. Mr Lamb and his family lost everything, and escaped in their night attire. The station books and documents were saved. Business is being carried on in ihe goods shed.

BLAZE AT NAPIER. PREMISES DAMAGED. NAPIER, Thursday. An excellent save was effected by the brigade in a flro in a two-storey wooden building in Hastings Street late last night. The brigade quenched the blaze in excellent lima, so that only the rear portion wss seriously affected. The building was Jointly occupied by Mr Ken Evans (photographer), the Tung Lee Laundry, and the Savoy Cafe. Some of the occupiers were rescued by the brigade from the front verandah. The building was owned by the White Swan Brewery Co, and was insured in the Phoenix Office for £BOO. LARGE HOUSE BURNED. DARGAVILE, Thursday. A flro at Naurnai this morning totally destroyed a large house and contents, owned and occupied by Mr Henry Miller and family. Mrs Miller was absent at the time of the outbreak, but the other members of the family were at home and saved very little of their belongings. The insurance is not availbala, .
