Payment of old age, widows’ and war pensions will be made this month on the 22nd instead of the 23rd., the customary day.

The Royal Air Force announced last night that the race next year for the Schneider Cup trophy is to be held some day in September, probably at the Solent, Blackpool, Morecambe, or Liverpool. No decision has yet been reached.

A decision to make a special order authorising a special loan of £3OO for the Kainui No. 3 special rating district, on the basis of l-15d in £1 was mace by the Waikato County Council today. The loan wffl have a currency of ”36i years.

A ballot will be held this week to pick eight members for the Committee of the Working Men’s Club out of the twelve names submitted at the annual meeting. The names of those nominated are: —Messrs R. Boswell, 11. Davies, W. Green, J. Ilardie, G. Ileppleston, J. E. Hoffman, R. 11. Millns, W. Mitchell, J. Nicholson, E. J. Quid, A. Roberts and IT. Webster.

The Bishop of Waikato, Dr. Cherrington, visited Waihi on Sunday, and after attending the eight o’clock service at St. John’s Church, Went on to Katikati and conducted a confirmation service. There were 16 candidates presented. On his return to Waihi a confirmation service was celebrated at St. John’s, the vicar presenting 25 candidates.

“I firmly believe that in a few years Anzac Day will cease to be recognised,” said Mr J. W. Shaw, speaking on the subject of modern education at a meeting of the Council of Christian Congregations at Auckland last evening. “It is a fact that most people cannot fill in a day unless amusement is provided for them. Lack of reverence is not responsible; it is just a defect in our educational system.”

A pretty incident occurred, at the opening of the new wing of the Waikato Hospital yesterday afternoon, when a little girl patient, with bandaged hand, and attired in a pretty dress of primrose and brown crinkled paper, presented Dr. Hugh Douglas, for over 20 years surgeon superintendent of the hospital, with a large replica of the key to the new wing, tied with a bow of pretty ribbon. The incident was the signal for an outburst of applause.

Under the, will of the late Mrs. Amelia Adelaide Ilore, of Christchurch, the following charitable bequests are given: £l5O to the Christchurch District Nursing Association; £SO to the Cholmondelay Home for Children at Governor’s Bay; £l5O to St. Saviour’s Guild; and £l5O to St. George s Hospital, Christchurch. After all payments due have been made, the residue of the estate is to be divided equally between the four legatees above-named.
