RACING.

TAUMARUNUI MEETING. ] i ' ~ N v- ■ ]i DAY GUARD WINS A DOUBLE. farndon scores over hurdles. , . j A THIRD SUCCESS TO ABBEY DAY. The two-days’ meeting of the Tot - " martmui Racing Club was concluded yesterday In fine weather, rhe fixture was particularly well managed, and in this respect the president (Mr ' W. H. Wackrow), the secretary (Mr Sam Sarah) and the many enthusiastic workers associated with them are deserving of full credit for ,the smooth runningof the gathering. A feature of the racing yesterday was a double by Day Guard, while Abbey Day secured another victory, making three to his credit .at the meeting. In the Maiden Handicap, with which yesterday’s programme opened, the Te Awamutu trained Air King, who had finished second in similar company on the opening day, proved equal to the ! occasion this time. Venus Abbey was second and thus improved on her third of Saturday. The favourite, Prince Lu, was the next to finish. Flitter, who was very unlucky on the first day,' through losing ground at the start, made amends yesterday, ■} when the Te Aroha filly won the Ohunui Hack Handicap, with Gold Clip and the favourite, Abbess, in the places. / Day Guard gave nothing else a chance in the President’s Handicap, in which the Ngaruawahia candidate was ridden by the'local horseman, E. Radford. Wenday reached second place with a late run while Siaosi, who was - next, got among .the money for the first time this season. Farndon, who is trained at Te Rapa, won the Raurimu Hack Hurdles from end to end with Lord Star and Gold Rep in the places. The consistency of Abbey Day, who won a double on Saturday, was demonstrated again yesterday when the Hack Cup fell to the credit of the Quin Abbey—Bell Crispin filly. War Officer and Rip'on Abbey''were next to finish. The Matamata candidate, High Rose, having her second start of the day, had little trouble in disposing of hdr opponents in the Piriaka Hack Handicap. The favourite, Micrometer, was second, while Cantab was the next to finish. The winner had the advantage of a clear run all the way while Micrometer was one to suffer by interference. Despite a rise of 71bs. for his earlier win Day Guard made light of his 8.10 in the Flying Handicap, with Value and Macroom the closest of the others. In the Farewell Handicap, Always, who runs in the same interests as Farndon, accounted for his four opponents very readily at the finish of the mile journey.
