New Zealand 1 Railways Department in connection Hj with- tlio carriage of -horses from. Wet-: I lington to Auckland lor the racing at j Christmas time. It. was stated that ”| a special train .would, leave Wellington j for Auckland on December 16. The i| horses would ;be carried in-It wagons (\, and the train would travel' at ■practical ally express speed. Forty horses must be guaranteed for the special train,- liut it .was .not anticipated that there would he any difficulty in acquiring. this number. Correspondence was received from the Department in connection with- the j extra charges levied on owners and j trainers in the matter of railage on the ■I Main Trunk. The secretary explained j the difficulties that had- arisen.
