IVSR H. CLELAND.

SERIES OF PRESENTATIONS

There was a largo attendance at the Roy Scouts' Hall, Matamata, on the occasion of a "send-off" to Mr 11. Cleland, who has been bandmaster ever sincc_, the inception of the boys' band.

Mr T. Prowse (chairman Scouts' J Committee) stated that it is intended lo present .Mr Cleland with an illuminated address, with photographs of 1 the band and committee. The address was in process of completion and would be forwarded on to the recipient. In the meantime the speaker asked Mrs Cleland to accept a bronze vase as a slight token of the boys' appreciation for her assistance in many ways, especially during the time of the annual camps at Waihi beach. Mr 11. Cleland feelingly responded, and expressed his keen regret at leaving the district. The evening concluded with a dance, music being supplied by Misses Cleland, Hitchcock and Vincent. At the bowling green on Saturday Mr and Mrs Cleland were presented witli parting gifts from the Bowling and Croquet Clubs. The presentations were made by Mrs Buchanan (president Croquet Club), ami Mr G. Stewart (president Rowling Club). On Saturday evening .Mr Cleland was farewelled by his fellow members at the Matamata Club, when Mr W. T. Walker handed Mr Cleland an aneroid barometer and expressed members' sincere good wishes for the future prosperity of himself and family. Mr Cleland, who has been Government inspector of stock for flic past 7 years, lias been promoted lo Wanganui. The vacancy will be filled by Mr Morris of Cambridge district.
