Constable I. H. Mathieson has been appointed clerk and bailiff to the Magistrate’s Court at Matamata.

Lord Inchcape has, the Admiralty announced, been appointed honorary captain in the Royal Navy Reserve.

Constable E. Best, who is stationed at Hokitika, is spending part of his holiday with his parents at Morrinsvillo.

The Nobel prizes for medicine have been awarded lo Professors J. Fibiger, of Copenhagen, and Conjurcgg, of Vienna.

Mr W. J. Harland, sub-manager for New' Zealand of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, has retired after nearly 48 years of continuous service. Mr A. Dc B. Brandon, chairman of directors, on behalf of the directors and staff, presented Mr Harland yesterday willi a handsome grandfather clock and Mrs Harland with a handbag. Mr I). E. Walker, formerly accountant of the Adelaide branch, will succeed Mr' Harland as sub-manager for New Zealand.
