MAIL SERVICE.
$ TE AWAMUTU TO KAWHIA. A MUCH-NEEDED FACILITY. TE AWAMUTU, Friday. It is announced here that t.hc Poslal Department has accepted a contract for a daily mail service between Te Awamutu and Kawhia, from January .1, 1928, thus making Te Awamutu the postal centre on the Main Trunk railway for Kawhia district. It is understood the mails will be despatched from Te Awamutu each morning and from Kawhia each even- . ing, the latter being forwarded on by the outward trains. This will be a much-needed facility for Kawhia district residents, and is made possible by the improvements being effected to the main road between Pirongia and Kawhia. There is about six miles of unmetalled road near Ngutunui that has proved an almost insuperable obstacle in wet weather. Arrangements have been made for metalling that length this summer with a light coating, which ■will have the top course added after next winter.
