BOWLING.

THE NEW SEASON. GREENS IN FREE USE. (By “Toucher.”) The stage Is now well set for the new season and bowlers have been on the various greens for some time, although the peak of enthusiasm in this connection will not be reached until the weather is more settled. At the week-end there was a rinks tournament on Labour Day, there was competition play at Ngaruawahia and at the greens'of the Hamilton Club. The weather, which was of a somewhat squally nature, upset continuous play but the afternoon of Monday was in every way satisfactory from the climatic viewpoint. A feature in the new season’s operations which will bring delight to the bowling fraternity will be the introduction of the Daylight Saving Measure which comes into vogue next week and which will afford extended time for play. The local clubs all report a keen membership and additions to the ranks of many taking up the game for the first, time. The South Auckland tournament will be held in Hamilton this season and it will be commenced on Boxing Day instead of late on in January which has been the practice when the Centre festival has been staged here in the past. A tour to the East Coast is among other events scheduled for the new term, while the home and home contests with Auckland for the llardlcy Shield will be a further attraction. Everything points to this Centre, whichHias the second largest membership in the Dominion, making further rapid strides in the bowling realm during 1927-28.
