THE CHAMPION PLATE.
EASY TO LIMERICK.
“There was never any question as to what would be the winner, and Limerick was not doing his best at any stage of the race,” says “The Watcher,” in referring to the race for the Champion Plate at yrentham. “Laughing Prince clearly proved that his Auckland form was wrong by running a great race. He dropped back several lengths in the running round the turn, but finished on well in the straight. Te Monanui ran a fine race, but was not equal to the task. Grand Knight lay at the rear of the field for the first mile and put in a brilliant run up the straight, being right up with the lenders with a furlong to go, but he then weakened into fourth place. Beacon Light improved a lot on his running the first day and was always prominent until the concluding stages. Star Stranger had every chance but faded out in the straight after being in the lead up to a furlong from the post. Rapier did not flatter his backers, nor did Damaris.”
