EX-COUNTY CLERK CHARGED.
BEARING ANOTHER’S GUILT.

AUCKLAND, Friday
Charles McKinnon, aged 50,. clerk_in the employ of the Mangonui County Council, on a charge of furnisliing a false receipt, came before Mr Justice Ilerdman for sentence. There had been other charges of theft and furnishing false receipts, but these were not proceeded with. Mr Justice Ilerdman said there was no doubt accused had taken on ills own shoulders wrong-doing of another man. It also appeared that be was endeavouring to repay the money which had been stolen, and that he himself had not profited as a result of the defalcations was quite apparent. He had not received any of the moneys which were the subject of the charges. McKinnon was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon, and repay the amount owing, approximately £4l.
