BOXING.

TOURNEY AT TE AWAMUTU YOUWG MEN'S INSTITUTE. Another of the winter tournaments promoted by the Te Awamutu Young Men's Institute (by arrangement with the Prankton Boxing Association) was staged in the Empire Theatre, Te Awamutu, in the presence of a very large attendance of the public—probably a record house.

All arrangements had been carefully carried out by an enthusiastic and capable executive, led by Messrs Oliphant (president), L. A. Chittenden (secretary), C. A. Rielly, F. Baker and P. Teddy. The referee was Mr Dick Mealy, of Auckland, and his decisions were invariably well received. Dalton's orchestra provided appropriate music as overtures and incidental to the bouts.

FLY-WEIGHTS. E. Adams (Te Awamutu) and Elliott (Frankton), three two-miuntcs rounds. —The referee intervened just before the call of time and awarded the honours to Adams, amid popular acclaim.

The next bout was between A. Dick (Te Awamutu) and Bradley (Frankton). —Dick gained a very popular verdict by a narrow margin. No. 3 bout was between B. Kelly (Korakonui), 10.5, and Hoban (Ohaupo), 10.6. Kelly got the verdict.

A. Loomb, 11.13, v. G. Long 12.0, of Te Awamutu. —Long got the verdict, mainly through his aggressiveness, though Loomb was far the cleverer in countering.

11. Bennett (Te Kawa), 9.13, v. Saunders (Ngaruawahia), 10.3 (four rounds). —A real good fight went in favour of Bennett. E. Ardley (Prankton), 9.2, v. White (Tahuna), 9.4, four rounds. —The referee stopped the contest in the second round, and awarded [he honours to Ardley. W. Craig (Te Awamutu), 9.8, v. Watkins (Te Aroha), 9.10, four rounds. —The referee declared a draw —a very popular decision. Renouf (Prankton), 8.6, v. Wilson (Cambridge), 8.11, three rounds. — The decision went to the Frankton boy. C. Craig (Te Awamutu), 9.1, v. T. Meehan (Te Aroha), 8.11, three rounds. —The decision in favour of Craig was the signal for loud applause. Ali Moses (Parawera), 7.9, v. P. Hesford (Te Awamutu), 8.2, three rounds. —Hesford got the verdict by a narrow margin.

T. Harmes (Te Aroha), 9.7, v. Jock Wilson (Prankton), 9.7, six twominutes rounds for the Te Awamutu Y.M.I. Cup.—The fourth round was going merrily until the referee stopped the bout and awarded the verdict to Harmes, Wilson being disqualified for punching below the belt. This ended what was the merriest mill of the evening. A. Craig (Te Awamutu), 9.5, v. Sturges (Prankton), 9.9, four rounds. —Craig's victory was very popular. Tierney (Te Aroha), 10.13, v. Brain (Frankton), 11.3, four rounds.—Just before gong time in the third round the referee stopped the encounter by awarding the verdict to Brain. It was the solidest slogging match of the tournament, and there was not a wide margin.

Curran (Auckland), B.G, v. Smith (Tahuna), 9.9, three rounds.—The referee awarded the decision to Gurra*.
