GALES AND STORMS.
BRIDGES WASHED AWAY. SYDNEY, October 4. Many bridges have been washed away and in the limber country the tram lines have been destroyed. The Lai robe River, which normally is one chain in width, is now three miles across. Residents have moved to higher ground. The weather in Sydney continues bitterly cold. There was a slight fall of snow in the heart of the city this ai'lernoon. The temperatures are the lowest experienced in October for 18 years.
