COAL UTILISATION PROCESSES. EXHAUSTIVE INQUIRY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Fuel Research Committee have made recommendations which have been approved by the Government. It is proposed to make a general levy by the Goal Mine Owners’ Association to the extent of £IOOO yearly for three years, subsidised to an equal amount by the Government. With this a laboratory and staff will be set up, controlled by'the committee, who will report quarterly to the Research Council and the mine-owners.
The programme will cover an exhaustive enquiry into the coal utilisation processes of other countries, and then application to New Zealand coal, together with a survey of the latter, in continuation of the work already done by Dr. McLaurin at the Dominion laboratory and Professor Denham at the Canterbury College.
