COST OF CANBERRA.
HEAVY EXPENDITURE. METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION. The expenditure on the Federal Capital is set down at anything ,bc- ' Iween £10,000,000 and £13,000,000. Figures from official publications disclose an outlay of approximately £7,500,000. This amount may have to be added to bring it up lo date. The principle upon, which the city has been constructed is responsible for a considerable part of the total. Each group of buildings permits a wide, unoccupied area between that and every other group, but it has involved an extensive expenditure on l'oads and streets and water supply and sewerage connections, in order to bind them all together and to give each some at least of the conveniences of the others. The work, which is now proceeding on buildings of different kinds, will bring the aggregate up to more millions before it appreciably slackens. I
