“Will you take the secretaryship?” the chairman asked 11 times at a meeting held in Timaru the other night (reporls the Herald). Each of the 1.1 members refused to accept the office, and it was then suggested that the names of (his own included) be placed in a hat, and the first drawn (ill the office. The 11 were on tenterhooks as the hat was passed to a reporter to draw a name. “Well, I suppose it is a fair go,” the new secretary exclaimed as he was at once oressed into his new duties.
