SEASON OPENS.

TROUT FISHING IN N.Z. The trout fishing season throughout the Dominion with the exception of streams and lakes in Lhe Rotorua and Taupo districts, opened this morning. Tlie; issue of licenses locally is on a par with that of previous seasons, but owing to the swollen state of local rivers and lakes if is not expected that big bags will mark the opening of the season in the Waikato. The streams near Putaruru, and the Puniu, near Te Awamutu, were visited to-day, and a number of sportsmen are trying out the Waikato River at Horotiu while a number^ of enthusiasts opened the season at 3tt>. 1 Bridge this morning. The streams near Pirongia arc reported to be clear, and good bags arc expected in that locality. The Hamilton Acclimatisation Club have been allotted 20,000 fry for liberation in the streams in its district. This will lay a sound foundation for future 'fishing. - ■
