CARS IN COLLISION.

SEQUEL IN COURT. DRIVER FINED. Before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M.. this morning. Trevor Hugh Slioard, as the result of. an accident which occurred on the TJaulapu Road, was charged with dangerous and negligent driving. Mr Swarbriek appeared for defendant. In the absence of defendant, who was confined to his bed, his father gave evidence, lie did not see Mrs Ward's car until within about 20 to 25 yards. In bis opinion, if the car he was in bad not swerved it. would have crashed into the other car. Mr Dillicar was also called to give evidence, and stated that from the positions of the ears after the accident, Slioard did the only tiling possible under the circumstances in trying to avoid an accident.

His Worship, in summing up. said that in his opinion the accident was caused by defendant swerving to bis right—a dangerous practice. On the charge of dangerous driving tie would lie fined £5 and costs JOs, and on the further charge of negligent driving lie would be ordered to pay costs, 10s. Another Accident. Hie intersection of Hood Street and Victoria Street, James Gilbert, land agent, of Hamilton, was charged with dangerous driving, and was fined £3. with jSs costs, with an additional. £1 for witnesses’ expenses. Finlay, a farmer, ol Pukeialia, while travelling along Victoria Sired in the direction of the Railway Bridge and approaching Hie intersection at a slow rale, did not see defendant's car unlit it suddenly shot out and tried In dodge in trout of bis car. Finlay’s ear crashed into Gilbert's, damaging il badly. _ After evidence had been called, His Worship said that 1o his mind the accident was due io defendant’s failing to keep a proper look-out. He was travelling at an excessive speed. Mr King appeared for defendant.
