TOTALISATOR IN N.S.W.

+ NEW REGULATIONS. QUEER RESULTS AT GOSFORD. UNFORTUNATE INVESTORS. (United Press 'Association). SYDNEY, June 22. The totalisator at the Gosford races. I operating on the recently introduced reguations. showed some queer results. In one race, although the bookmakers' quotation for the winning horse was four to one the tolalisalor investors only received their money back, so although they backed the winner they did not win. The only ones who benefited were those who hacked the favourite which ran third. In ail ordinary case they would have received less than their investment, : but under the new rules they had to receive their money back. Altogether 341 tickets were issued, 28G being on the placed horses. In another race the first instance occurred of the tolalisalor not holding sufficient money to return to each hacker the amount of his original investment. 528 tickets equalling £132 were issued. When Ihe regulalion 121 per cent, had been deducted; £lls Ids remained for division, whereas £ J I G was required. With a view to popularising the totalisator, the revenue from which for) some lime has shown a decreasing leudency, the New Soulh Wales Gov-j eminent framed new regulations.

The chief amendment was that, whenever possihle, all dividends shall he calculated so as lo assure that each investor on a placed horse would receive a return of not less than the unit of investment on which the tolalisalor is operated Another amendment dealt with the number of dividends in a race ami provides that there shall he two dividends if there are not less than four and not more

than seven starters, and three dividends if there are eight or more starters.

The ratio of the division for a three dividend race of the amount available for distribution was fixed at 50 per cent, for I,lm /lrst horse, 30 per c«nt. for the second, and 20 per cent, for Ihe third. The, ratios for one and two dividend races remained unaltered.
