STEAMER SPRINGS LEAK.
RESULT OF HEAVY WEATHER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. After experiencing heavy weather when en route from Sydney to Wellington, the Union Company’s mail steamer Makura started some rivets in the No. 1 forward hold, and a cerium amount of water entered the empty compartment. As soon as the vessel arrived at the wliar;, diver’s equipment was taken aboard with a view to making an investigation of the damage. Until the extent of the leak is ascertained to-morrow morning, when the water will have been emptied, no statement can be made as to tiie vessel’s future movements.
Kinder ordinary circumstances, the Makura will sail for San Francisco tomorrow afternoon.
