RAILWAY SETTLEMENT.
PURCHASE BY DEPARTMENT. 100 HOUSES TO BE BUILT. (3y Teievrraph.—Press Association, i WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Negotiations have been finalised by the Railway Department for the purchase of about 20 acres of land seven minutes from the Ngaio railway station for the purpose of establishing a settlement for railway workers. An immediate start is to bo made upon its development on town-planning lines, providing about a hundred sections of approximately one-sixth of an acre. About 80 houses are to be built by the Department for letting to railway employees on a basis of one day’s pay rent weekly. It is understood the purchase price of the'property was about £IO,OOO.
