’WARE IMPOSTERS.
DODGES OF UNEMPLOYED MEN. WARNING TO CITIZENS. It was reported at the last meeting of the Citizens’ Unemployment Committee at Christchurch that men, presumably out of work, had been selling' souvenir programmes containing the itinerary of the New Zealand cricket team at present in England, and stating at the same time that they were representing the Unemployment Committee. This was refuted emphatically, as the committee has authorised no one to sell programmes on its behalf. “I’m sure no authority has been given by the New Zealand Cricket Council,” said Mr W. 11. Winsor. Mr E. 11. Marriner said he knew of one firm that had printed the itinerary of the New Zealand cricketers, but only for advertising purposes. “It is quite an old dodge,” said Mr R. B. Owen. “There is a number of professional spongers among the unemployed of Christchurch, and in view of the misrepresentations that have been made it would be better if people were to get in touch with the Relief Depot before purchasing from or assisting such men. Ring ’phone No. 2 and find out what men have been authorised to collect money, for only in this way will citizens be safeguarded against impostors.” Mrs T. E. Taylor said she knew of two cases of misrepresentation.
“These men should he dealt with by the police,” said Rev. Frank Rule.
