“It is quite unnecessary that this ininspection should take place annually,” said Mr Linklater. “When they arc installed, our own engineer certifies that they arc in order, and they are in a place where there is very little danger to human life. I think a protest should he made by this board against the waste of money which is going on. Surely it is quite unnecessary, and quite wrong, that the farmer should have to pay for this inspection whether he wants it or not.”

The engineer (Mr W. A. Waters) pointed out that what was really inspected was chc machinery, in order to see that there wore no - dangerous bells, etc. Mr M. A. Eliott: We have seen one or two accidents occurring lately, and, if the fee is only 2s 6d I think the inspection is worth it.

Mr Linklater: It is not the cost to the farmer, but the cost to the country generally, that I am thinking of.

<i The matter was allowed to lapse will)out any action being taken. Mr Linklater remarking that he. would Into bring the matter up in the House (** Representatives*
