GALE AT WHANGAREL, HEAVY RAINFALL. WHANGAREL Monday. A very severe south-easterly p:;ile swept Whangarei during the. weekend. It was accompanied by the heaviest rainfall registered during any 21 hours this yeij. 2.17 inches being registered at VAhangarcl and 3.1 inches at llualangala. COLD, SQUALLY WEATHER. WELLINGTON, Monday. Miserably cold, squally weather prevailed during the week-end, witli occasional driving sleety showers, and the hills across the harbour showed a coating of snow on the higher peaks.
