THE ROYAL TOUR.
IN THE NETHERMOST DEPTHS. TORPEDO ROOM INSPECTED. ■;United Press Association). MELBOURNE, June 18. A wireless message from the Renown states that the Duchess of York descended to the nethermost depths of the ship when, accompanied by the Duke, she visited the torpedo room. Her Royal Highness made light of climbing down ladders in order to reach the torpedo room and scorned a proffered overall, accepting only gloves lo protect her hands.
The Duchess moved among the oily, death-dealing monsters in the yawning steel tubes, while ttie torpedo officer explained the mysteries of their working. The crew gave a loading demonstration.
Although the heat of the room was intense, Their Royal Highnesses remained for half an hour.
