MR COSGRAVE’S ATTITUDE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, June IG. Mr. Cosgrave says he is laking up his present attitude in declining to form a cabinet because those who were in opposition to him in the last Dail Eireann, meaning the Labour Party and other groups, are now in o majority, while his own party is in a minority. The President adds that if lie formed a Government his action would be tantamount to !he usurplion of the rights of the Dail. “The deputies supporting me will never take the oath of allegiance,” asserts Mr. do Valera, leader of the Republicans. “We give allegiance to the Irish nation and people only. The people will insist on the speedy abolition of the degrading penal oath which disfrancises onc-lhiro of the electorate.” Eighty-eight candidates at the elections forfeited them deposits of £IOO as they failed to secure a thir l of the vote recorded. It is persistently reported in the Dail Lobbies I hat despite Mr Gosgrave’s contention that the onus of carrying on rests with the opposition, some other party on Tuesday will nominate him to the presidency to enable him to form a ministry.
