MEETING OF COUNCIL.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. The fortnightly meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held last night, His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. B. Fow) presiding. Others present were: Crs. B. C. Lowry, W. P. Mason, O. Farrcr, C. Lafferty, F. A. Snell, J. Gilbert, F. D. Pinfold, F. W. Luxford, C. J. W. Barton, and J. E. Tidd. The meeting was the last of the existing Council before the municipal elections took place. Works Committee. Becommendations submitted by the Works Committee were adopted as follows: Access road to wharf: That the letter be received. High level footways, etc.—Ohaupo Boad and School Guily: That the engineer be authorised to provide a concrete fence to the bank in front of Mr Griffiths' property and a rail, at a cost estimated at £212; also rails at the ends of the high-levels on the northern side of the school gully, at a cost of £3. That the chairman and engineer report on the best method of dealing with the bank on Pembroke Street opposite the junction with Palmerston Street. Maeroa drainage: That the proposals of the engineer be adopted and the borough solicitors be asked to put the matter on a legal basis. Kerbing, Brycc Street and Alma Street: That both these streets be kerbed and channelled at costs estimated at—Alma Street £135, and Bryce Street £25. Kerbing and channelling school gully: That this matter be left in the hands of the chairman and engineer with authority to either accept the lowest tender or do the work by day labour under the engineer's supervision. Be various matters dealing with Stanley Street — Noxious weeds and nuisances: That notices be served on the owners to clear the weeds and abate any nuisances which their properties may be causing. Footways: That the sewer manholes and fire plugs, etc., x be lowered to conform to the surrounding surfaces. Permanent levels: That the engineer report on the cost involved in trimming the footways to permanent levels. Kerbing: That they be advised this work will have to wait until loan money is available. Street lighting corner: near Biver Boad: That the electrical engineer report on the matter of erecting an additional light. Maeroa septic tank: That as suggested by the engineer the contractors he allowed an extra £2O for clearing slips, etc.

Omnibus Committee. Watson Bus Company, Ltd., re amendment to Hotokauri service: That the Council approve of the proposal to delete the 2 p.m. Saturday and 10.30 a.m. Sundy runs from Die limetable. It. E. MeCrae, re HumillonFrankton service via Hosstrevor Street: That the application for the exclusive right to run via Bosstrevor Street be declined. George Soanes, re Green bus unauthorised trips to Claudclands: That the Watson Bus Company be asked to furnish an explanation for their vehicle running an unauthorised trip to Claudelands at G. 15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29. George Soanes, re reduction in number of buses engaged in Claudelands service: That the Council approve the rcductio-n in the number of vehicles engaged in this service, and that Mr Soanes be informed that his vehicle must keep to the time-table. George Soanes, re terms for payment heavy traffic license fees and diverting one bus to Te Aroha temporarily: That he be advised that the regulations under the Motor Omnibus Traffic Act prohibit the Council Issuing a license or authority for any vehicle in respect of which the appropriate heavy traffic fees have not been paid, and that no objection will be raised by the Council to his diverting one of his vehicles to the Te Aroha run while Mr Dent's vehicle is being overhauled.

Re time-table Hamilton-lluntly run, Ngaruawahia run, and regulation of above services: That the lime-tables as amended by the inspector be approved, and that Mr McCrae be informed that he Is not authorised to pick up passengers within the borough with vehicles engaged on this run during Sundays. General Matters. The Prime Minister advised that he was in receipt of the Council's communication with reference to the taxation of motor vehicles and the maintenance of roads and streets. The Council's representations would receive full consideration. Advice was received that Mrs Crawford had expressed her willingness to give an casement measuring 15 feet each way from the corner of her section at the intersection of Firth and Cook Streets.—The offer was accepted with thanks.
