BOISTEROUS STUDENTS.
'SKYLARKING' AT STATION
PUBLIC JOSTLED AND SHOVED.
TWO PLACED UNDER ARREST,
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CIIRISTCIIURCII, Thursday,
There was a lively scene at the Christchurch railway station last even ing when, after some hakas and cheering by the students of Canterbury college, two of their number were taken to the police station. The students, who numbered over l. : 00 were at the station to welcome the Otago University team which was on its way to Auckland to participate in the inter-university tournament. Prior to the arrival of the Otago team, the Canterbury College team had been given a rousing send-off and as the boat train carrying the Canterbury team departed, the large crowd on the platform were jostled and shoved about.
In the confusion a student bumped into one of the railway officials who, highly incensed, called on the police constable to arrest the student, and subsequently two were taken away in a taxi by a constable. In the opinion of the railway people the thing went beyond skylarking and strong measures were necessary for the protection of the travelling public.
