PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Presbyterian General Assembly opened to r night. The retiring Moderator, the Rev. J. Kilpatrick, reviewed the year's work, stressing the efforts made on behalf of the Maori race. The Church, he said, was committed to and must go forward with Hie erection of a theological college. Were the men and means available, 10 new charges might be created in the Auckland district. It was clearly the Church's duty to help Auckland so that the whole fleid could be occupied. He suggested the creation of live new charges at once in that district. Generally he said, the Church was in a healthy condition, but he stressed the point that there was a deep feeling of discontent amid all the ever-increasing facilities for' pleasure. The retiring Moderator introduced his successor, the Rev. George Hunter McNeur, who delivered an address on the subject, "New Zealand and China." The new Moderator was presented with a wallet of notes in recognition of his services in the mission field.
