WAIKATO BOARD MEETS. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. The Waikato Hospital Board held its monthly meeting to-day, Mr Campbell Johnstone presiding. Olliers present were Messrs .1. A Byburn, Clarke, A. Blackman. Smylho, A. G Deni. W. Hill, J. T. Bailey A. A. WagstafT, H. A. Bell, C. .T W Barton, J. Price, T. Hinton and F. Potts. House and Finance Committee. That as district nurse Oaken is not, submitted the following recommendations, which were adopted : That as District Nurse Oakdcn is not employed by the hoard, the proposal of the Waikato Natives io raise money towards the cost of a motor car for the district nurse,,should he dealt with by the Health Department. That the conditions and terms of leasing the unoccupied porliou of Ihe Te Kufti Hospital grounds he left in the hands of the Chairman, Mr Blackman and the Secretary. That Ihe. matter of a caretaker for the To Knit I Hospital be ieft in the hands of the chairman and Mr Blackman.

That the Medical Superintendent be authorised to purchase stereoscope for the X-ray Department (estimated cost £6O), ultra-violet lamp for artificial sunlight treatment (estimated cost £100) ; Table-top for fracture cases (estimated cost £25). That the billiard table in the junior doctors’ cottage he renovated and an extra basin he installed.

That the telephone system at the hospital be re-organised and an automatic telephone he installed. It was decided to call applications for the position of plumber at the hospital. The action of Mr Blackman in appoinling-a temporary caretaker for the Te Kuiti Hospital was confirmed.

. Medical Superintendent’s Report. The medical superintendent (Dr G. W. Gpwer; reported that 222 patients had hern admitted Io the Waikato Hospital during Hic month and 2.38 were discharged. ..... - Thirteen deaths occurred and 19b patients • remained in hospital. The number of operations performed was 116. Two had been admitted Io Ihe Old Men’s Home and two discharged. Two died and three were transferred.in lo the hospital, leaving .33 inmates'. • Nurse Oakdcn. district nurse for the Natives,. had advised and attended 4 4 patients. The condifion of the sr-llle-ments visited was fairly satisfactory, except for surface-draining. District nurse .V. Short, Mokau, had attended and advised 20 patients, and 58 cases had been dealt with by district as-sistant-nurse McPherson, Te Whaili. At the Huntly-Hospital three patients were admitted and two discharged, while at the Matamata Hospital eight were admitted and five discharged. The report was adopted.
