BRITISH COAL CRISIS.
NATIONAL AGREEMENT. MR CHURCHILL'S SUGGGESTION. (Received Sept. 0. H. 30 a.m.) LONDON. Sp.pt. 8. Mr Churchill, Hie Chancellor of Ihe Exchequer, after conferring with the minors, sent, a letter lo Mr Evan Williams. thanking the Association /or' its decision to consult its constituenls regarding the resumption of national negotiations. He reiterates ihe suggestion ihat national agreement, governing many, if not. all, of the points hitherto dealt with nationally, but varied in the respective districts, provides the best and shortest path to reach an honourable and lasting settlement. He significantly states that it is impossible for any conference sitting in London to do more than lay down certain broad principles and to recommend the practical steps necessary to secure an early and universal resumption.
