BRITISH COAL STRIKE.
MEN’S DELEGATES RETURN. SUMMONED BY GOVERNMENT. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, Sept. 8. The leaders of the coalminers returned to London last night hurriedly and unexpectedly from Bournemouth. It is believed this was in response to a telephone message from the Government. Tho National Union o’f Manufacturers has addressed a resolution to the Prime Minister, Mr Stanley Baldwin, and the Chancellor of tho Exchequer, Mr Winston Churchill, deprecating action by the Government to enforce a national agreement in the coalmining industry. ’Flic union expresses the opinion that district settlements are more likely to conduce lo lasting peace.
