SERIOUS ASSAULT.
MAORI YOUTHS CHARGED. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. (Special to Times.) HUNTLY, Wednesday. Two Maori youths were charged before Iwo Justices of Ihe Peace at the Ifimtly Court to-day with having committed a serious assailll on a Maori girl, aged J i years and 10 months, at Ihe Waalii native village, on August 22 last. The evidence disclosed that the giri was returning from church when she was waylaid by the accused and the olTencc commiticd. The accused pleaded not guilty, and were committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Hamilton. Bail .was allowed in two sureties of £l5O each, accused to report to the police once a week.
