MENACE TO THE COMMUNITY. 1 (By Telegraph—Press Association.)] AUCKLAND, Monday. Robert Stewart Banner, who was found guilty in the Supreme Court of four charges of indecent assaults on Maori boys at Rawene, was sentenced by Mr Justice Stringer to seven years’ hard labour.
Counsel for accused had raised the point that the jury was misdirected. The Judge said the verdict was correct, but there were things that might influence the Governor-in-Couneil to grant a new trial. Accused, His Honor added, was a menace to the community.
