OBITUARY.
DR. E. W. SHARMAN. AUCKLAND, Saturday. The death occurred suddenly yesterday afternoon of Dr. E. W. Sharman, port health officer at Auckland, aged 59- Dr. Shat'man was in his usual slate of health on Thursday, but became suddenly ill about mid-day yesterday and died three hours later. Dr. Shannon arrived in Auckland 33 years ago after a medical education at Guy’s and Edinburgh. He was Auckland’s first port health officer, having heen appointed 27 years ago. Dr. Sharman. was born at Uppingham, Rutlandshire. Ilis death will come as a shock to very many friends throughout New Zealand. He is survived by Mrs and Miss Sharman. MRS S. M. NEVILLE. BLENHEIM, Friday. Obituary.—Tile wife of Mr S. M. Neville, aged 83. Deceased was well known in connection with the early life of Marlborough. SPOFFORTH, “DEMON BOWLER.” (Australian and N.Z. Press Assn.) LONDON, June 4. Tlie death lias occurred of Mr Frederick Robert Spofforth, the famous Australian demon bowler. Born at Balmain, near Sydney, Mr Spofforth. was in his 73rd year. He was a member of tHo first Australian team that visited England in IS7S, when he took IOS wickets for an average of 11.10 runs. He was also a member of the teams of ISBO, ISS2, 18S4 and 1886. In all test matches, Australia v. England, he took 94 wickets for an average of 18.41 runs. He has resided in England for 35 years.
